I wonder what was going through the Father’s mind the day Jesus died. It’s impossible to know but I do wonder. I wonder if He though about raising Jesus from the grave earlier than they had planned. I wonder if He thought about destroying all of humanity again. I wonder if His loss was overwhelming and disorienting. I wonder if three days felt like three thousand years. I wonder if He thought about taking immediate revenge. I wonder if the Father was silent or whether He talked with the Spirit or the angels or anyone. I know how excited I am that Jesus rose from the dead, how excited was the Father? What do you wonder? What questions do you have?
It’s at the cross that Jesus grabs ahold of humanities wickedness and embrasses us at our lowest. It’s at the cross that Jesus breaks the chains of death. It’s at the cross that He would overcome Satan’s reign in our lives. It’s at the cross that Jesus would forever show the extent of His love. It’s beyond words and beyond compare to anything ever done in history.
Today we remember. We remember what He has done for us.
