Wow, God drops a bomb on Job and reminds him who’s who! The Creator God stands so far off from His creation, there is no comparison between us and Him. He isn’t like one of us, He is unlike anything or anyone we have ever encountered. There is no equal to the One who can create out of nothing. There is no substantive similarities between God and His creation. When Job demanded what he perceived to be human justice, God reminded Job that He doesn’t deal like humans. What human can create like God? So when God walks through the incredible created world, Job gets to see the striking difference between God and Job, between the Creator and the creation.
And that’s what brings me back to window seat on the boat (Job 38:8-12):
Who shut up the sea behind doorswhen it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garmentand wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for itand set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may comeand no farther;here is where you proud waves halt’?
Here we are marveling at the creative power of man in making this amazing vessel: Over 1,000 feet long, weighing hundreds of thousands of pounds, holding over 4,000 people and carrying enough food to feed a small country! Yet when I look out the window I am overwhelmed by the ocean that is tossing us around like a rag doll. I’m overwhelmed by the One who “shut up the sea behind doors”, and He who “fixed limits for it” saying, “‘this far you may come and no farther’”. Truly God’s creative power screams out to us to see Him for who He is so that we can see who we really are. To see Him high and lifted up, distinct from His creation, yet willingly interested and in love with each aspect of His creation.
What part of God’s creation speaks most to you? Maybe it’s the grandness of the ocean, or the incredible intricacies of a spider’s web. Maybe it’s just the beauty and vivid colors of a flower or the quiet, simple calm of a snow fall. Whatever it is, take some time to tell others in the Tenth Dot community what part of God’s creation reminds you most of who He is. For me, it’s the ocean in all of it’s splendor, power and vastness. What is it for you? |

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one part of creation. God’s creation is marvelous and endlessly fascinating. Today I experienced the song of birds as the sun rose over the mountains. It seemed like a ten thousand birds were all singing in perfect harmony. I wondered how many people were hearing this song that speaks of God’s vastness and majesty. The colors in the sky seemed to constantly be changing from dark purples and blues to pinks and oranges as the sun came up over the horizon. It was beautiful and amazing. The crisp fresh air, the songs, the Painter’s sunrise, the mystical clouds–it was magical. God is beyond compare.

For me it is the stars. I work a night shift. When I have a moment during my shifts on a clear night, I love to look up and take in the view. It just makes me stand and be still and listen for God.

it is such a great reminder that we’re just a little speck in the grandeur of God’s vast world. i love going out in nature and just sitting and being still. listening to nature’s sounds. it’s especially calming when near a body of water and when things are still at night with a slight breeze.

I live in a valley in the heart of Mexico. From my house I can look out and see mountains in every direction. Behind the mountains I see more mountains. Sometimes I just stand at the top of the stairs, or sit on the roof and am honestly speechless. God is so amazing.
Also, living in a small town in the heart of Mexico, means lots of clear nights, with few city lights. the stars are AMAZING. I seriously stand out there for hours, or lay on our roof for hours gazing out at the stars, astounded by God.
However, even though I’m amazed when I look at the stars or the mountains, just like PJ said in todays devotion, I’m reminded how small I am compared to God. How much I can’t even begin to THINK about comparing myself to Him.

I am amazed how this volcanic eruption in Iceland is literally shutting down travel in Europe. We think we have control and power and put faith in our technological advances – yet God can shut us down in an instant.
I am amazed that this all powerful, enormous God still loves a dirty sinner like me..
