What are you doing today?

Have you ever planned out a day for someone? Maybe for a birthday or wedding or a date? Imagine for a moment that you have spent the last 3 months planning something big for someone. You have their entire day planned out from the moment they wake up until the moment they go to bed. You have made their favorite drinks, made reservations at their favorite restaurants and have their favorite people their to celebrate this moment with them. You have thought through every possible detail to make this the perfect day.

Then the day you have been planning arrives. You are all excited as you bring their favorite drink but something happens. She is too busy for the drink, she has plans of her own that day, even though you made it clear to "block out the day". Ouch. You try everything you can do to persuade her but to no avail. All of your plans are ruined by her plans.

What if God has been planning your day before the world began? Are your plans more important than His? What if every second of this day has been planned for you? What if God made reservations to meet and eat with certain people? What if He has an entire God-sized-day planned out for you but you are too busy for Him?

Judges 7

Gideon Defeats the Midianites

Early in the morning, Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and all his men camped at the spring of Harod. The camp of Midian was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh. The Lord said to Gideon, "You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’ Now announce to the army, ‘Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.’" So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.

God is going to make it really clear that He is the one who saves. Somehow like the Israelites we forget that we can only do things because of God’s strength. Boasting is a sign of forgetfulness.

Get a Plan

Do you have a plan for moving forward in the faith? A plan mixed with prayers like this–change everything!

Pour out your heart like water onto the Lord

-Lamentations 2:19

Pour out your heart. Talk to God about everything. Keep a journal or a written log of what you believe God wants you to do. Focus on one idea that God has put on your heart. If you try to bring every idea God has ever put on your heart into action in one day you will probably fall over dead or something bizarre might happen so just calm down and focus on one. It is important before you continue that you have an idea that you are thinking of that you would like to see move from an idea to reality.

Words inspire us. They motivate us. They shape our culture. Today I want us to think about a very specific word, a wonderful word. It’s such a fun word. It’s used in a variety of ways. The word is- whatever. Here are a few "whatevers" from God’s Word.

Jeremiah 18:1-9

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord  “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.”   So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel.  But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, SHAPING IT AS SEEMED BEST TO HIM.

Then the word of the Lord came to me:   “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? ” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel."

How do you determine what to do today? What steps to take? Who to call? What to say yes to and what to say no to? Do I go this way or that way? Which direction does God want me to go?

These are deep questions that we have on an ongoing basis. Today, I want us to think deeply about some verses, and ponder the implications of these passages on our lives.
