The Farmer and God

The farmer and God are in a wonderful partnership in life. The farmer prepares the soil, plants the seed, and does his best to keep animals away from his crop. But he does not control the wind, the rain or the growth of the crop. The farmer is completely dependent on God. At the same time, the farmer must do something. He can’t simply pray for rain but not plant the seed. He is in a partnership with God for his work to succeed. He has to faithfully do his part and pray that God will provide the right amount of rain, sunshine and protection for him to experience a great harvest.

You and I are in this partnership with God in our work, our schools, our families and our life with God. Let’s look at one example among many:

Matthew 7:7

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

One of the dangers of following Jesus is becoming complacent: Grace becomes ordinary. Jesus’ sacrifice becomes familiar. God’s love becomes normal. The power of the Spirit becomes something we teach about but never experience. Prayer becomes boring. Life becomes mere existence.

The faith we are a part of is no less than extraordinary. Unless we constantly remind ourselves of the enormous lengths of God’s everlasting love, we will miss out on the life that God designed for us.

Today as you ponder these verses, your life, and God Almighty, let God remind you of the deep and remarkable life He has for you.
