  • Joseph was wrongly imprisoned. Yet he kept his eyes on what God was doing, not on his circumstances
  • Daniel was thrown into the lions den. Yet God rescued his faithful servant.
  • What about the apostles in chapter 5 of Acts

Acts 5:40-42

40His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. 42Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

What causes such faithfulness? They kept their eyes focused on Jesus. As they focus on Jesus, their light and momentary troubles do not compare to the glory that far outweighs them all. We have to learn to focus on Jesus. It changes everything.

PRAYERS OR COMMENTS:

  1. comment-top

    I’ve gone to the mountains.
    I’ve fasted and prayed.
I’ve picked up a good book from the bookstore. My favorite read from last year was Crazy Love by Francis Chan.
I’ve listened to sermons online of old youth pastors, teachers and friends in ministry.
    I’ve memorized Scripture.
I’ve gone for a long run.
I’ve got up early to carve out time to be with God.
I’ve bought a new journal and just write my heart out to God.
I’ve turned on Pandora.com and just sung praises to God.
    Okay that’s enough for now.

I’ve made a commitment to memorize one verse per week in 2010.

I have committed to waking up an hour early every day to do my bible study

I am also trying to get rid of some of my nasty habits so that I can get rid of my old self and become more of the good and faithful servant God intended me to be.

This is not going to be easy but like it mentions our troubles are nothing compared to the gift from God in the end
