Peter Walks On Water Part 2To check out part one click HERE This story is not just about walking on water but about obedience to the call. Jesus calls us into an unpredictable life of suffering mixed with joy, love fused with sorrow, and risk that embraces fear. It’s a life that experiences it’s fullness because it does not live in the apparent safety of the "boat" but risks everything by stepping out of the boat to be with Jesus. We can not demand of God to calm the storm, to clear the way and to make things "easy" so that we know we won’t fail. No! Jesus is calls us to deny ourselves, to pick up our cross and follow Him at all costs. He is looking for one person to step out of the boat and respond to His call. Will that be you? You can make all the excuses you want. "I don’t have time." "I don’t have the skills." "I don’t have the ability." I don’t have . . ." Jesus is still calling you! Until you have faith to get out of the boat you won’t experience the power of God in your life. Today don’t just read this story. Take a step of action and get out of the boat! |

This is a challenging text, because very few of us probably in fact would say we have this sort of faith. In fact, if we did say so, it would come across pridefully. The difficulty for me is that I’m not necessarily faced with a “get out of the boat” level situation everyday. The question “What are you doing to get out of the boat today?” leads me to almost try to conjure up something. Instead, I wonder “How can I be ready to get out of the boat when I’m called to?” or even more so “Lord, in what ways are you calling me today and give me ears to hear your voice.”
Jesus is always calling us… and for me today, I feel it may very well be His will for me to take care of the simple responsibilities that I’ve been entrusted with, yet I want to not do them in my strength and will, but in His. Lord, help me to hear when you call.
