My Bible software says that the word Mercy appears over 240 times in the Bible.  That’s just 20 fewer times than the word “love” appears in the Bible.  Of course, that shouldn’t come as any surprise when you think that where love runs wild, mercy is sure to be close at hand.  I selected just three passages for us to meditate on today.  May God’s mercies be new to you as you drink deeply from His Word right now!

In God’s mercy He has planned to be reached by fallen man.  Look at the incredible details he put into making the Ark of the Covenant in order that it might symbolize His relationship with humanity!

Exodus 25:17-22:  "You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth.  And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat.  Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end.  Of one piece with the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends.  The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be.  And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you. There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel.

The heartbeat of forgiveness is found in the mercy of God.  Have you thrown yourself at the Mercy seat lately?  Have you recently had the mercy of God poured of your head as He forgave the sin that you turned over to Him?

Psalm 51:1:  Have mercy on me, O God,

       according to your unfailing love;

       according to your great mercy

       blot out my transgressions.

Look at the power of God’s mercy — able to redeem us from a life of sin and death and bring us into the richness of a relationship with Him!  Would you worship God today because of His mercy?!?!

Ephesians 2:4-7:  But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved — and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
