Today’s TD is all about holiness. As this one word week continues, would you just let God’s Word soak into your hearts and minds? Just let the ideas of Scripture penetrate the noise and busyness of life so that they hit at our hearts and move us to love God and love people more.
When’s the last time you worshiped God for His holiness? I love how the Psalmist call it, “the splendor of His holiness” — God’s holiness sets Him apart so majestically!
Psalm 29:1-2: Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones,
ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
worship the LORD in the splendor of his holines
God calls His children to put off the old life of corruption and put on the new life….of holiness.
Ephesians 4:20-24: You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Holiness must govern every part of our lives — especially in regards to our sexual desires.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7: For this is the will of God, your sanctification: That you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, 5not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.
Holiness isn’t just commanded by God, it’s some He craves for His children so strongly that He disciplines us in order to bring it about. Just as our earthly fathers discipline us when we stray, our perfect Heavenly Father disciplines us so that our holiness will grow.
Hebrews 12:9-10: Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.
Jesus is coming back. His return is certain. Holiness is what we ought to strive for while we await His return in the sky!
2 Peter 3:11-13: Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
