PRAYERS OR COMMENTS:

God I need to be a kinder, gentler father. I want my children to see in me the fruit of a life lived for you. I don’t want them to grow up thinking their heavenly father is impatient, unkind or harsh with them because that is how their earthly father treated them. Give me grace in this area of my life and may my fathering reflect your fathering; may I show gentleness as you have so often undeservedly shown it to me. Thank you God for your amazing love in my life.

Lord, may I learn to be more gentle with the feelings of others. May I proclaim truth, but in the context of mercy and grace. Thank you Lord.

Father, help me to be more kind and mild-mannered, not rough or harsh- especially in my speech with my children or my husband. Lord, you say you have already given me these fruits of the Spirit- so please help me act like it. Help me show gentleness to my family. Help me be a good example to my daughter, of a kind and gentle woman.

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear gentleness, is the picture of a mother bathing her newborn child. Cooing along with the child as the child experiences the water and the mother’s embrace. I see the overwhelming joy in the mother and the subtle touch of her hands as she caresses all the dirt away.

As I see this image in my mind, I recognize my need to treat others in this same meek fashion.

Father God, please fill me with the wisdom and knowledge that comes from the Holy Spirit. In that, may I begin to truly understand what it means to treat others with this same level of gentleness – especially my wife and daughter. Thank you Lord for the blessings you pour out despite how much I don’t deserve it.

    I love you.
