For it is by grace

You couldn’t earn it. Salvation had to be given to you because of the depth of your sin.

Saved in this life from having to travel the journey alone; saved in the next life from spending an eternity without God.

through faith

A faith that was given to you by God. Grace is from God, salvation is from God and faith to receive them both is from God. It’s all from and about God!

and this not from yourselves

ie. YOU CAN DO NOTHING TO EARN SALVATION!

It is the gift of God

God gives this gift freely to all who call on His name and believe in the work of His Son Jesus Christ. While there are expectations that we will live to please Him after the gift has been received, He gives the gift regardless of our future commitment to Him. It truly is amazing grace.

Not by works

Stop trying to be right with God by working hard enough. Only faith in His gracious gift can put us in a right relationship with Him.

So that no one can boast

It started with Him. It continues with Him. It ends with Him.
