When God sets Joshua up as Moses’ predecessor the people say,

Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses.

-Joshua 1:17

Clearly God being with us is one of the keys to effective leadership. It is easy to use our personality, our influence and our position to get people to do what we want, but this type of leadership is flawed at its core because it depends on us. However, a leadership that is humbled by the very presence of God in our lives is not bound by our life, but His life in us and with us. Only leadership that truly depends on God’s presence with us, has the power to radically transform lives. We have to trust that God has all the ABILITY. As we are obedient, He shows up in power.
