2 Corinthians 4:18 - "Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

It is challenging to focus on the unseen. The Unseen is mysterious. “But there is a God in Heaven who reaveals mysteries.” (Dan2:28)

It is challenging to find solitude. But the Lord is not in the wind or the earthquake or the fire, he is in the gentle whisper. (1 ki 19)

I guess I better challenge myself!

John 15:5b “Apart from me you can do NOTHING!”

What a simple concept I have learned since my early Sunday school days and how difficult it can still be to remember. Sure, it’s instantly recognizable in the big things, even in a lot of the medium sized things in my life…but how often I forget that my day to day life is solely dependent on him. The fact that I am awake this morning, with a laptop to do this devotional on, with all the comforts of home around me, that I have a job to go to today, and so much more…it’s easy to complain about work, or about life, but what a wonderful reminder that all of this could be gone in a heartbeat, and that God has blessed me with all of this and SO much more! I deserve none of it and yet I am continuously blessed in abundance! This is an attitude that I need to embrace much more often than I do.

I love having this time, alone with God. Usually, it’s first thing in the morning- with a cup of coffee (so I can think!) It’s when I’m truly myself with Him. I am able to pour out open and honest–sometimes gut-wrenching prayers to Him, with no distractions.

What I know is that apart from Christ I am miserable. Apart from Christ I may have temporal fun (I don’t think I can really call this happiness) but I will never have true joy! What I know is that when my eyes are fixed on Christ and Jesus is my focal point, and I am doing what I have been called to do, walking in His light, I am the most happiest. Even when the storms of life try to rock my boat, as long as my eyes are fixed on Jesus, the storm do not effect my outlook on life. I am not sure how incredible the rewards are in heaven, I know that my tiny mind has no idea how awesome it will be, but my goal are not the rewards. My goal is Jesus! My goal is to live my life for Christ. My goal is to seek the Kingdom first. God has never left me or has he never forsaken me, so why should I ever worry? I have received the greatest gift, salvation, so what troubles should concern me? What is the worst that could happen – I die? But Paul says, “To die is gain.” I can’t agree more. As a Christian, I have it made. Not in the worldly sense of having things made, but in the Spiritual sense. With Christ, anything that happens will turn out good! I am so thankful that I have Jesus in my life and that he has saved a wretch like me.

Lord, thank you for allowing us the connection to you through prayer. Last night, our prayer experience was amazing. Though I cried my eyes out the entire time, and didn’t understand what the tears were for, you know Lord and you have a plan. Maybe they were for someone else Lord, I don’t yet know. All I know is that you are amazing and I am so blessed by you Father. I love you Lord. Help me to continue to have these times of prayer & solitude in you.

Lord, I make my life so busy, yet I can do none of it without you and I would have nothing without you. Help me to stop and spend time deliberately carved out for you. I love you, Lord! Thank you for everything you have poured into my life.
